Metcalf Commercial Decorators are awarded

A commercial decorating company in Northampton has been recognised for supporting the Armed Forces community.

Metcalf Commercial Decorators Ltd joined two other businesses from Northamptonshire in being awarded a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award 2017, for the continued support they have shown to members of their team who serve or have served in the military.

Due to being unable to attend the special awards Presentation Dinner earlier in November, a special presentation was made at Metcalf’s office, on Moulton Park Business Estate on Wednesday 29th November.

Managing Director, Ian Metcalf, was pleased to accept the award on behalf of his organisation. Currently employing one reservist in Northampton, Ian explained: “We are extremely proud to support the Armed Services and the work that reservists do. As a small company, the skills brought back from training are invaluable to us and are used to inspire and mentor our apprentices.”

In order to achieve a Silver Award, employers have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and shown some flexibility towards the annual training commitments and mobilisation of reservist employees or other members of the Armed Forces community.

John Wilson, the Ministry of Defence’s Regional Employer Engagement Director, said: “I was delighted to present the Silver Award to Ian at his office in Northampton and I look forward to developing further my relationship with the business.

“Employing members of the Armed Forces community can be very beneficial to employers. The skills and attributes that individuals gain through their military training, such as teamwork, problem-solving and the experience of leading a team can often be of great value in their civilian workplace.”
