Cadets in Hinckley are set to have a new place to train thanks to work beginning to construct a new building on Brunel Road.

The training facility will be used by cadets and adult volunteers from both Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Army Cadet Force (ACF) and 197 (Hinckley) Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC).

Being developed to include the latest technologies, the new building will include interactive classrooms containing overhead projectors, a radio room and a training hall, as well as extensive storage facilities.

Martin Capewell, Head of Estates at East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA), said: “The joint training facility can be used by up to 80 young people and adult volunteers at one time, and will allow both cadet organisations to share learning and resources.

Construction underway

“Work began on site in November and is hoped to be completed by autumn 2017. The new facility will allow both the Army Cadets and Air Cadets to grow and develop in Hinckley, meaning they can continue to attract new individuals to join them.”

The new centre is being constructed on the same site as the previous building, and during the construction works the cadets will be training at a local educational facility.
