Air Cadets begin recruiting campaign

Opportunities to fly, glide and shoot are open to new members of the Swadlincote Air Cadets as they start their New Year Recruiting campaign on Tuesday 8 September at their Eureka Park Headquarters.

The reknowned 1211 Squadron are set to hold their final recruitment intake of the year at their Squadron Headquarters. The Air Cadet Organisation recruits those aged between 12 (and in Year 8) and 17, training includes a focus on aviation, adventure training, shooting, flying and sports. Cadets can gain qualifications including BTECs, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and First Aid, among other opportunities.

1211 Squadron has had an incredibly successful year so far, with August alone has seeing cadets attending week long camps at RAF Marham, RAF Odiham and the Air Cadet Organisation’s Adventure Training Centre in Llanbedr, Wales as well as providing their Band to entertain the crowds at this year’s 4th Ashes Cricket Test at the Trent Bridge Stadium!

In addition to all this, Cadets have also been working at the weekends towards qualifying as Radio Communicators or Youth First Aiders and the Squadron has given 12 Cadets their first experience flying an aircraft at RAF Cranwell.

The Squadrons recruitment officer Flying Officer Moss said: “We’re leading up to our final recruitment intake of the year on the back of an incredibly successful month which illustrates just how much we can offer young people. The opportunities available here cannot be found anywhere else and I urge every young man and woman in the area to join us and see for themselves!”
