A flag raising ceremony has been held to mark the arrival of 102 Logistic Brigade to the UK.

102 Logistic Brigade arrive at Prince William of Gloucester BarracksThe Brigade that was previously based in Gutersloh, Germany raised its flag on UK soil for the first time yesterday in front of their new Headquarters at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, Grantham, Lincolnshire.

There to witness the flag raising and welcoming the Brigade to their new home was The Vice Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach who is also the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire.

Brigadier Darrell Amison, Commander of 102 Logistic Parade said: “Seven weeks ago we lowered the Brigade flag in Gutersloh, the home of 102 Logistic Brigade since its formation in 1993, today we raise it for the first time on home soil in Grantham.  We are all delighted to be here, to serve in a town with such rich military connections.  We are very much looking forward to getting to know the people of Grantham and Lincolnshire, who I know provide outstanding support to our service personnel and families.”

The role of the Brigade is to provide a force to receive both troops and equipment into the theatre of operations, organising their forward movement to the battle area then logistically sustain the fighting formations and finally redeploy the force back to the UK base or onto subsequent operations.

This complex role was demonstrated last year when the Brigade led the logistical drawdown of Op HERRICK in Afghanistan.
