Awarding military service

Two Nottinghamshire-based Reservists have been awarded for 10 years military service, with a third being honoured for Meritorious Service at a special presentations event.

Those awarded, who each serve with C (Kohima) Company 4 MERCIAN, attended a presentation evening that took place on 16 June at Bulwell Army Reserve Centre.

Sergeant Glenn Woodward, aged 43, who lives in Mansfield, was one of the Reservists to receive a Volunteer Reserve Service Medal (VRSM) for 10 years’ service. He joined the Army Reserve in 2003 and has previously been deployed on operations to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Private Daniel Boycott, who lives in Mansfield Woodhouse, became a Reservist in 2004, initially training as a Chef. He completed a tour of Afghanistan before retraining as an Infantryman and going on to a further tour of Afghanistan in 2009. He said: “I am delighted to have been presented with a VRSM for my service to the Reserve Forces. The training and knowledge I have gained during my time has been incredibly valuable and has also served me well in my civilian career.”

The final person to receive an award at the presentation evening was Private Jodie Dawes, aged 24, who lives in Bulwell. Jodie received special honours and received a Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Volunteer Service, which was presented in the form of a mounted scroll signed by the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

Jodie works as a Recruit Clerk at C Company 4 MERCIAN. She said: “I’ve only been doing my job; I am stunned that I have been recognised in this way.”

Each of the awards was presented by Colonel David Sneath MBE DL TD, who praised each of the Reservists for both their dedication and hard work.
