Derbyshire Army Cadets will be raising funds for local charities this Christmas alongside the Rotary Club of Long Eaton.

For the fifth successive year, cadets from across the county will take part in the Cadet Christmas Band Concert on Saturday, 17 December at Trent College, Long Eaton.

The concert has raised over £15,000 for the many charities that the Rotary Club supports and for Derbyshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) itself over the last few years.

The event will see a host of talented teenage musicians and singers produce a Christmas cracker of a show overseen by ACF Bandmaster Lieutenant Peter Ward.

He said: “Derbyshire ACF’s band are joined this year by players from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire ACF plus some new friends.

“We will be joined part way through the first half by Aim Excelsum School of Music, a band that started last year of six to 10-year-olds plus their parents who will stay in the concert band until the interval.

“We will also be joined by the newly formed Derbyshire ACF Corps of Drums who will start the second half.”

Wing Commander Phil Giles, East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association’s (RFCA) Derbyshire county chairman and member of the Rotary Club of Long Eaton, said: “It’s testament to how talented the cadets are that the Cadet Christmas Band Concert is always a big success and has become an integral part of the festive calendar.

“Witnessing these incredibly skilled youngsters and helping the good-causes that the Rotary Club of Long Eaton support is the perfect way to get the Christmas celebrations kick-started.

“Thanks to sponsors such as Long Eaton Glass and others who don’t wish to be named, we’re able to give 100 per cent of the money raised from ticket sales to charity.”

Tickets for the event in May Hall at Trent College are £10 for adults, £5 for children and available from Long Eaton Glass on Broad Street, Long Eaton Garage in Tamworth Road and Swann Menswear in Market Place, Long Eaton.

Alternatively tickets can be purchased by contacting Phil Giles by email through wgcdr.giles@btinternet.com or by calling 01332 812067.
