Young people and adult volunteers from Nottinghamshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) celebrated Armed Forces Day by attending an event at Wollaton Park.

During the two day event, held on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June, the youth organisation hosted a recruitment stand designed to get event attendees interested in finding out more about the ACF locally.

The Armed Forces Day celebration at Wollaton Park is Nottingham’s flagship event and continues to grow in popularity each year.

During the event, cadets engaged with members of the public by demonstrating command tasks, encouraging people to look inside ration packs and describing how and why camouflage cream is applied.

Cadet Sergeant Lewis Smith, aged 17, from Wigman Road Detachment in Bilborough, attended the event. He said:

“This was my 4th year supporting Armed Forces Day in Nottingham. The event is important to me as it allows us to show our respect to what the Armed Forces do. I enjoyed assisting in the running of the ACF’s A Coy (The Rifles) display stand on the day.”

Cadet Corporal Ciara Weir, aged 16, also from Nottinghamshire ACF’s Wigman Road Detachment, said: “This is the fourth year I have taken part in Armed Forces Day. I enjoy promoting the ACF and raising awareness of the Armed Forces and what they do for our country.  I enjoy being in the ACF because I get to pass on my knowledge to younger cadets.”

Reflecting on the event, Colonel Alan Burt, Commandant of Nottinghamshire ACF, said: “I would like to reiterate what these two cadets have already said about it being important we remember and support our Armed Services, Regular and Reserve. I am always amazed by the support our cadets give and that makes feel proud to be their Commandant. Throughout Nottinghamshire cadets from all three services gave up their time to show their support.”
