Cadets take part in rebadging event

A number of Cadets and adult volunteers from Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland are set to attend the Amalgamation Parade this weekend (Saturday 2 May).

The parade, which is due to take place at Richmond Castle in North Yorkshire, has been organised to mark the formal amalgamation of the 9th / 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales) and The Queen’s Royal Lancers to form The Royal Lancers.

B Squadron from Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (LNR) Army Cadet Force (ACF) has been have been affiliated to the 9th / 12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales) and The Queen’s Royal Lancers cap badges for many years, so the parade marks a significant time of both remembrance and celebration for those at the event.

Colonel Phil Watson, Commandant of LNR ACF, is set to attend the parade. He explained: “There is a lot of excitement and anticipation among both our Cadets and adult volunteers about the re-badging event. The day will consist of a parade at Richmond Castle in the presence of the Her Majesty the Queen (The Colonel in Chief) and Deputy-Colonel in Chief Prince Andrew.

“Following the parade celebrations will continue around the regiment’s history. In the evening the Band of the Royal Armoured Corps will perform and the evening will be completed by a fireworks display.”

The event celebrated the amalgamation of the 9th/12th  Lancers and the Queen’s Royal Lancers to form their new regiment “The Royal Lancers”.

17 Cadets and 10 adult volunteers from LNR ACF will travel to Richmond Castle to take part in the event and join a contingent of over a 100 cadets and adults who will be affiliated to the regiment.
