An employer from Leicestershire got the opportunity to attend Her Majesty the Queen’s annual birthday parade last weekend (14 June) as part of an employer engagement event.

Tony Carr, Plant Manager at Caterpillar (UK) Ltd, based in Desford, Leicestershire, travelled to London to attend Trooping the Colour along with a number of other employers who are supportive of the Armed Forces from around the East Midlands.

Trooping the Colour is a ceremony that happens each year in June to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday. The event is held on Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall with invited guests, members of the public and members of the Royal family having the opportunity to see a magnificent parade carried out by operational troops from the Household Division.

Each employer in attendance from the East Midlands either employs a Reservist currently or has employed a Reservist previously, and has demonstrated their understanding of the benefits that Reservists can bring to the civilian work force such as additional training, leadership skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Reflecting on the event Tony Carr, Plant Manager at Caterpillar (UK) Ltd, said: “I was very humbled and privileged to attend the ceremony.  I served both as an Officer in the Royal Navy and as a Naval Reservist so I understand first-hand the importance our Reserve Forces play in our Country’s defence.

“Now in my role as a senior manager within Caterpillar I am immensely proud that our company recognises the personal commitment our employees can contribute to the Reserve Forces and also the benefits from the experience gained from their involvement within the Reserves.”

John Wilson, East Midlands Regional SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers) Director said: “Giving employers the opportunity to attend events such as this is a way of us showing our appreciation to local employers who understand and support the benefits of employing Reservists in their organisations.

“There are many reasons to support Reservists within your business. Reservists are men and women of various ages who chose to undertake Reserve Force training outside of their civilian career.  Each Reservist plays a major role in assisting our Regular Forces and their training makes them a considerable asset to any employer.

“We have received excellent feedback from many of the employers who attended the event with many commenting this will be an event they will remember for a long time.”
