Local solicitors awarded for supporting the Armed Forces Community

Local solicitors have received an award for showing their support to the Armed Forces Community.

Bird and Co Solicitors, who have offices in Newark, Grantham and Lincoln, have received a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Certificate for demonstrating their support to military personnel and their families and for pledging that support through the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.

A presentation dinner was held at Kelham Hall in Nottinghamshire on Wednesday 18 November.

Sara Ansley, Solicitor, at Bird and Co, attended the event. She said:  “We are proud to support Armed Forces Personnel and their families and believe that other companies should do the same. Bird and Co Solicitors signed the Corporate Covenant over a year ago and currently employ two veterans as well as members of military families.

Employers awarded for supporting the Armed Forces community“We are really honoured to receive the silver award. We have previously supported the Armed Forces Community through sponsoring a recent awards event, so it is great to receive an award ourselves at the presentation this evening.”

John Wilson, East Midlands Regional SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers) Director, said: “The purpose of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme is to recognise and reward those organisations who show their support towards defence. Each of the employers awarded have HR policies and procedures relating to the support of Armed Forces personnel, they have shown flexibility towards Reservist employees’ training commitments and mobilisation as well as showing support towards those who volunteer as leaders in the Cadet Forces.

“The event at Kelham Hall was a success, with many of the attendees commenting they enjoyed speaking to other employers about their experiences of employing Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and the benefits this can bring to their business.”

11 employers from private sector businesses around the East Midlands have been awarded in total for showing their support to the Armed Forces Community.
