MELTON AIR CADETS CELEBRATE AIR TRAINING CORPS (ATC) SUNDAY

The Air Cadets and staff of 1279 (Melton Mowbray) Squadron celebrated Air Training Corps (ATC) Sunday by marching through the town with members of 1181 (Syston), 2071 (Stamford), and 2248 (Rutland) Squadrons.

Over 60 personnel lead by the Standards of the Squadrons made their way through Melton Mowbray towards St Mary’s Church on Sunday 1 February 2015 to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the ATC’s formation.

A service led by the Padre of 1279 (Melton Mowbray) Squadron also took place, and was attended by Cadets and adult volunteers, along with HM Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire Jennifer, Lady Gretton JP, the Mayor, John Wyatt, Wing Commander Dickinson and Squadron Leader Pass.

The celebration came after Leicestershire was the first county to form an ATC Squadron, after the organisations formation on 5 February 1941.

Anyone who is interested in seeing the wide range of interests on offer can visit the squadron on their Tuesday or Thursday parade nights from 7pm at the Cadet Centre, Asfordby Road. More information can be found at http://www.1279atc.org.uk
