Nottingham Sea Cadets set to compete in regatta

Nottingham teenagers, all members of the Nottingham Sea Cadets, are set to put their boating skills to the test this weekend as they compete in the annual Sea Cadet Eastern Area Combined Regatta.

The cadets will travel to Girton Sailing Club, on Gainsborough Road, on 16 July to take part in the regatta, that will see competitors from across the east of England compete in a series of water borne challenges.

The young people from Nottingham will form four teams in the event: a rowing boat handling team that will be assessed on their manoeuvring of the boat around the course, a power boat handling team, a girls open racing team including cadets aged 12-17 years and a junior boys racing team including cadets aged 12-15 years, plus one kayaker.

Adult volunteer Becky Carter, Officer in Charge at Nottingham Sea Cadets, said: “Each of the teams have been practicing their skills at our parade evenings for weeks so are all really excited about the competition ahead.

“Being a Sea Cadet gives our young people the opportunity to learn to sail and do adventure training, developing loads of skills that improve their confidence and leadership abilities whilst having fun.”

Nottingham Sea Cadets are recruiting both cadets and adult volunteers.
