Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service signs to support the Armed Forces

Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue (NFRS) has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, in order to honour its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces.

The Service originally pledged support for the Armed Forces in September 2015 and will be refreshing its commitment at a joint signing ceremony at the Service HQ on 26 January 2016. The Covenant provides the Service with the opportunity to confirm publicly that it recognises the value of serving personnel, Regular and Reservists, Veterans and military families.

IMG_2419Station Manager, Damien West explained how supporting the Armed Forces is so important to NFRS: “NFRS is proud to support the Armed Forces and the fantastic work they do.  We will be looking to build on the support that we already offer the Forces through continued support of Reservists, working with local Cadet Groups, working with Veterans and their families and ensuring that we fulfil our commitment to the Corporate Covenant.  Armed Forces personnel bring many benefits to our organisation and to our community and we are proud to support them in their roles.”

NFRS currently employs six Reservist personnel across a variety of roles and supports them by providing up to three weeks paid leave for training each year and further unpaid leave upon request. NFRS also have a system in place to ensure that Reservists are supported throughout their deployment and have a role they can return to.

John Wilson, East Midlands Regional Employer Engagement Director, for the Ministry of Defence, said: “I would like to thank Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service for their on-going commitment in supporting the Armed Forces Community. The organisation has a specific HR policy outlining their support and showing flexibility towards its Reservist employees, furthermore they are currently considering ways in which they can support local cadet units.”

In order to further show its support NFRS will be displaying a framed copy of the Covenant at NFRS Headquarters.
