A Royal Marines Reserve (RMR) detachment is opening its doors to local people who want to find out more about becoming a Reservist.

RMR Nottingham is inviting those interested in learning more about being a Marine to come along to their open day on Saturday 14 March at Foresters House, Swiney Way, Nottingham NG9 6QX from 10am.

There are a number of different activities planned to take place on the day including attendees being able to view a number of presentations and military demonstrations, supplemented by military stances with themes around arctic warfare, weapon systems and living in the field.

The detachment is looking to recruit male Reservists aged from 17 to 33 years old and there are roles available including being a member of the Machine Gun Section and Training Team.

Major Al Edgar, who works as a pilot in his civilian career, said: “We are holding a recruiting day at our detachment in Nottingham so local people have an opportunity to come and meet Reservists and find out more about being in the Royal Marines Reserve.

“If you’re looking for a challenge that pushes you to your limits joining the Marines as a Reservist and earning the coveted Green Beret could be what you are looking for.

“Those joining us will become an elite member of about 600 people who combine their civilian jobs with serving part-time. Just like regular (full time) Royal Marines Commandos, you’ll learn to deploy our skills in any location, environment and terrain.

“There are many opportunities for individuals to specialise when they are trained and to deploy on exercise and operations with the regular Royal Marines.

“No booking is required for the open day so feel free to come along anytime from 10am to 5pm on Saturday.”
