Royal Marines Reserve invites local people to see them ‘in action’

The Nottingham detachment of the Royal Marines Reserve (RMR) is inviting local people in to the unit to allow them to learn more about becoming a Reservist.

The event, which will take place on Saturday 4 July from 10am to 5pm at Foresters House on Swiney Way in Chilwell, Nottingham NG9 6QX, is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the RMR.

All open day attendees will have the opportunity to:

-See a troop weapons demonstration
-Hear a presentation about a Marine’s cold weather warfare experience
-See an Arctic kit and rations demonstration
-Listen to training presentation delivered by a newly trained recruit
-See a field kit demonstration including clothing systems
-See a physical ropes and assault course demonstration
-Have the chance to tour the detachment facilities
-Ask current Reservists questions face-to-face
-Enjoy a ‘life in the RMR’ presentation delivered by a RMR veteran

Al Edgar_1Major Al Edgar, Officer Commanding the RMR detachment in Nottingham, said: “The detachment is looking to recruit potential male Reservists aged from 17 to 33 years old, so I would like to encourage anyone looking for a new challenge to get in touch.

“Balancing your civilian job and your part-time Reservist career is challenging but rewarding. I work as an Airline Pilot in my civilian career but always look forward to training with the RMR as this challenges me in a different way to my day-job.

“As a Royal Marines Reservist you’ll be an elite member of about 600 people who combine their civilian jobs with serving as part-time, fully trained Commandos. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills and deploy, on operations and exercises, with the regular Royal Marines in any location, environment and terrain. With experience you will have the chance to specialise in a range of specialist roles.”
