A Sleaford-based Army Cadet is looking forward to a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Canada as part of a Cadet exchange programme this summer.

A Sleaford-based Army Cadet is looking forward to a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Canada as part of a Cadet exchange programme this summer.

Cadet Tom Hurry from Lincolnshire Army Cadet ForceCadet Tom Hurry, aged 15, will travel to Canada after successfully applying for a 6-week course as part of the Cadet Bilateral Programme with the Royal Canadian Army Cadets.

The course, which includes an 18-day expedition, selects 12 applicants from across the UK who demonstrated self-discipline, pride in appearance, good citizenship, and a high level of physical fitness.

As part of the programme, Tom will have the chance to take part in adventurous training that will develop his survival, self-reliance, and canoeing skills, and will also be taught what to do when confronted by a Racoon, Porcupine, or a bear.
