Youth Aviation Day is a soaring success

Youth Aviation Day event

Hundreds of RAF Air Cadets and other youth group members were given a unique fly on the wall glimpse into all things aviation thanks to an event which took place on 12 June.

Youth Aviation Day is a national celebration of flying and is designed to encourage young people to choose a career in the skies.

Each year the main event takes place at Husbands Bosworth Airfield in Leicestershire and brings together pilots, planes and ground crew to give young people a real insight into a career in the air.

Rob Barsby, Event Director, said:  “Once again Youth Aviation Day was a great success despite the weather not being ideal.  It was wonderful to see Air Cadet Squadrons and youth groups coming together to share an experience supported by our partners and supporters.

“A highlight has to be the RAF Red Arrows giving their support with an end of day fly past – what a fantastic finish! The Youth Aviation Day event is fast becoming a must attend day and feedback from the attendees has be great, with lots of plans for a return visit next year.”

Over 100 cadets from the Midlands took part in the event, plus others who travelled hundreds of miles to join in.  Local dignitaries also attended, including Councillor Janette Ackerley, Chairman of Harborough District Council.

Rob added:  “As the events creator and director I would like to say a big thank you to all those that have helped and to all that donated to our worthy charities, Aerobility, the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and Help for Heroes.”

Cllr Ackerley said: “I was delighted to be invited to take part in Youth Aviation Day and thoroughly enjoyed myself.  The enthusiasm of the young people is something to be admired and thanks to an excellent event the path from school to a career in aviation is better understood.”
