Derbyshire Cadets represent their country in Tug of War championship
Three young people from Derbyshire Army Cadet Force (ACF) are set to join the England Tug of War team, thanks to their hard work and sheer determination.
The three Cadets, Jacob Preston, aged 16, Joe Sharratt, aged 16 years, and Luke Varley, aged 15 years, were selected to represent the Tug of War Association’s full England under 18 years team at the UK Championships after pulling their way to victory in a previous ACF national Tug of War Championship that happened in York earlier this year.
The Cadets started training in April this year and have increased their efforts as the championships have drawn closer.
Simon Worsley, Deputy Chief Executive and Head of Cadets and Youth at East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA) said: “Representing England at the UK Championships is something the Cadets should be incredibly proud of. All three of the Cadets have been training really hard to make sure they can pull to the best of their ability on the day. Sports are an important element of the Cadet experience so an achievement such as this is something the Cadets will remember for a long time.”
The Cadets will travel, accompanied by adult volunteers, to Perth in Scotland on Thursday 8 August ahead of the championships taking place on Saturday 10 August.
