Military personnel help celebrate East Midlands in Bloom

Four Reservists attended Nottingham Castle on Thursday 4 July, alongside local people and competition judges, to help celebrate East Midlands in Bloom.

The Reservists from HMS Sherwood, Nottingham’s only Naval Reserve unit, the Territorial Army (TA) and Royal Auxiliary Air Force were invited along to the event following the National Armed Forces Day activities in the city last weekend.

Warrant Officer 1 Sean Jones from HMS Sherwood said: “We were delighted to be invited along to the prestigious event. I’m sure the East Midlands was a highlight for the judges as there was a fantastic array of flowers that were all carefully planted into carpet beds for all to see.”

The carpet beds include thousands of tiny plants including:  Echeveria Glauca, Alternanthera H and Senecio Serpens.

There are a number of carpet beds for visitors to see in the grounds of Nottingham Castle including a 3D horse and knight sculpture, an Armed Forces Day design and other more traditional carpet beds.

East Midlands in Bloom is an annual competition, the aim of which is to encourage the improvement of our surroundings through the imaginative use of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping.
