Weekend roundup – A flying start
It has been another busy weekend for cadets and reserves in the East Midlands, thanks to competitions, training and fundraising activities across the region.
Lincoln Royal Marine Cadets finished runners up in the Portsmouth Cup competition that was held at the Commando Training Centre, Lympstone over the weekend.
Now Lincoln are not only the top Sea Cadet Detachment after winning the Gibraltar Cup earlier this year they are also the second best Royal Marine Cadet Detachment in the country.
Members of 1237 North Hykeham RAF Air Cadets got off to a flying start with their 100 Badges for RAF100 challenge by sending two cadets to complete their Blue Wings with 644 Volunteer Gliding Squadron.
While these cadets were up in the air the rest were fundraising for the unit by bag packing at a local supermarket.
The Sea Cadets hosted an Eastern area football competition in Grantham, with 42 teams from around the country turning out to play.
Members of Boston Sea Cadets also spent the weekend improving their paddle sport skills in a local swimming pool.
The Army Reserve’s 158 Regiment held a Regimental Operational Shooting competition including teams from sub-units throughout the UK.
Air Cadets from 1279 Melton Mowbray Squadron, 2248 Rutland Squadron and 2071 Stamford Squadron joined forces to go flying on Saturday.
