Basic training weekend for Lincolnshire’s Army cadets
Enjoying some down time on camp
Last weekend 130 new cadets, who have joined Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force over the last four months, attended their Basic Training Weekend at Beckingham Training Camp, near Newark on Trent. The cadets were from the 30 detachments spread across the county.
Instructed by Lincolnshire’s own Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, the aim of the weekend was to introduce the new cadets to communal living and undertake activities such as looking after their kit and equipment, barrack room layout, drill, turn out, military knowledge, teamwork activities, first aid, navigation and physical activity.

At the end of the weekend on their final parade they were presented with their Basic Training badges and certificates. They were also formally enrolled into the Army Cadet Force by the County Padres. Colonel Geoff Newmarch, the Honorary Colonel of Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force, was also present.
Colonel Jeremy A Field MBE, the Commandant of Lincolnshire ACF, said: “It is a huge privilege and an honour to lead these excellent young men and women who have enjoyed their first training weekend and have increased in self-confidence, self-reliance, teamwork, turn out and fitness and have made many new friends that may well last a lifetime. They can be justifiably proud of their achievements.
“The Basic Training Camp is the springboard for progression training up to the age of 18, which also includes expeditions, adventure training, sport, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, military skills, leadership and much more.”
