Cadets are blown away by Air Ambulance visit
Metheringham detachment with the Air Ambulance and the crew.
Cadets from Metheringham detachment recently visited Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, at their RAF Waddington base.
The Cadets were given a tour of the team’s home base, plus their aircraft, and got to learn more about this local charity, including its formidable financial challenges.

Cadet Connor Woodward said: “It was phenomenal to see so much equipment and then to be told that it was financed by charity and fundraising events. It just shows how all the hard work everyone puts in pays off!”
The Cadets visited the Air Ambulance as part of a ‘Cadet in the Community’ event. This initiative is part of every Cadets training and aims to help connect young people and the cadets to their local communities.
The Detachment Commander commented: “The cadets enjoyed an informative and fun evening and, who knows, perhaps we have some budding paramedics or pilots in our midst!”
The cadets were told the Air Ambulance’s annual running costs are £2.5 million and this will only increase as the team looks to provide 24/7 cover. The organisation transports the equivalent of an A&E department of people suffering from the most serious of illnesses and devastating injuries, providing the best possible treatment as quickly as possible.
Without the benefit of NHS or Government financial assistance, Air Ambulance is funded purely by the generosity of the public. It is now one of the UK’s leading Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) Charities.
