MAJOR LAYS WREATH TO COMMEMORATE VE DAY 75
On 8 May, as part of the VE Day 75 Commemoration, Major Mitch Pegg used his daily physical activity to go for a walk via the town’s War Memorial and lay a wreath.
Major Mitch Pegg, Officer Commanding of 4 (Lincolnshire) Company, based at Grimsby’s Army Reserve Centre at Westward Ho, visited the memorial on VE Day 75 on behalf of the Royal Anglian Regiment, for all those who gave their lives in World War II.
Reserve and regular soldiers from The Royal Anglian Regiment were due to make up the Army’s contingent in a 100-strong joint Service parade on Lincoln High Street. The event, organised by Lincoln City Council, had to be cancelled due to government regulations on Coronavirus.
With Grimsby’s War Memorial being only 500 metres or so from the Grimsby Army Reserve Centre, Mitch decided that his outdoor exercise for the day would be a short walk, with the memorial on the route and wreath in hand.
Major Pegg said, “Soldiers of the Company in both Grimsby and Lincoln are currently mobilised and preparing to support national and local efforts in defeating the deadly Coronavirus as part of the Army’s Covid Support Force. Despite our current challenges and hardships, it is vital that we remember all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom so many years ago and that we celebrate the anniversary of the end of that particular geographical conflict.”
