A prestigious presentation

A special presentation took place in Derbyshire last night (28 October) to announce Her Majesty’s Lord- Lieutenant’s new cadets. One cadet from the Sea Cadet Corps, the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps in Derbyshire were presented with a badge and certificate to certify their appointment as this year’s Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets at an event held at the TA Centre on Sinfin Lane in Derby.

Each year, the Lord-Lieutenant, Mr William Tucker, appoints three young people to serve alongside him as Lord- Lieutenant’s Cadets. When on duty, the cadets wear a distinctive badge of their appointment and assist the Lord-Lieutenant as required. During their appointment, which lasts for 12 months, each of the young people may be required to represent their youth organisation at a range of county-wide events as well as possible Royal visits.

This year’s cadets are: – Derbyshire Sea Cadet Corps – Leading Cadet Courtney Johnston, aged 15 years – Derbyshire Army Cadet Force – Cadet Sergeant Major Owen Palfreyman, aged 17 years – Derbyshire Air Training Corps – Flight Sergeant Lucy Fisher, aged 18 years.

Simon Worsley, Head of Cadets and Youth at East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, said: “This is a fantastic honour for each of the cadets and is richly deserved. Each of the young people awarded this evening had to go through a vigorous selection process and I know each of them are excited about what they will experience over forthcoming months.”
