Air Cadets compete for cyber, space and shooting honours at Wing Field Day
Held annually, the Wing Field Day allows Cadets to demonstrate the skills they’ve developed across the training syllabus.
After months of dedicated training, Air Cadets from South & East Midlands Wing showcased their skills in drill, aviation, cyber, space, first aid and shooting at the Wing Field Day.
Congratulations to 1359 (Beeston) Squadron who were crowned overall winners for a second year running on Sunday, 21st April.
Action-packed
Held annually, the Wing Field Day allows Cadets to demonstrate the skills they’ve developed across the training syllabus.
For 2024, more than 800 Cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers from 31 Squadrons travelled to parent station RAF Wittering, Peterborough, for an action-packed day of activities.
Changes to the programme introduced a practical flight simulator challenge and Python coding challenge for aviation and cyber competitions, respectively.
An ‘experience zone’ hosted by RAF Wittering was also introduced. Cadets could discover more about careers in the Royal Navy and RAF, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and fieldcraft and also practice their aim with laser clay pigeon shooting.
Cadets were also treated to a special visit from British Forces Broadcasting Service’s ‘Operation Ice Cream’ van and a flypast from an iconic Spitfire aircraft.
Pride
Squadron Leader Dan McGlynn, Wing Training Officer, organised the Wing Field Day. He said: “The day not only put Cadets’ skills to the test but gave them an opportunity to experience a wider range of amazing opportunities.
“From seeing their efforts in the competitions to the buzz during the flypast, I was really proud of everybody’s effort and participation during the day.
“A huge thank you to all who helped make the day such a great occasion from the volunteers running competitions, to the support of RAF Wittering and our external judges.”
