During almost six months of “no fixed abode” while their new Headquarters is being built, 2195 (Long Eaton) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets, has pressed on with the recruitment and training of cadets.

Last week thirteen teenagers became fully fledged cadets having been drawn to the Squadron’s many activities and advantages.

The cadets were enrolled into the squadron at a ceremony held at Grange School, one of the Squadrons temporary venues, in front of proud parents, members of the Royal British Legion and the Royal Air Force Association.

To get that far, the cadets have undergone training in such diverse subjects as the history of the Royal Air Force and First Aid, Foot Drill and Leadership, looking after uniforms and Fieldcraft. They are now able to join the rest of the squadron on the numerous cadet activities including flying, gliding, target shooting and gaining the many qualification open to cadets.

Flight Lieutenant Jack Stepanian, the Squadron’s Commanding Officer, spoke of his pride in the work of the two senior cadets, Cadet Flight Sergeant Bailey Wright, aged 17 years, and Cadet Sergeant Rebbeca Parr, aged 17 years, who were responsible for the training of the new cadets. He said: “Without their hard work, experience, drive and commitment, these new cadets would not have passed out”

Anyone aged from 13 to 17 years who fancies a taste of adventure and flying should contact the Squadron through the Air Cadet website: www.aircadets.org or join us at the Sea Cadet Centre on Oakleys Road on a Tuesday or Grange School, Station Road on a Thursday between 7 pm and 9 pm
