This year’s celebrations are set to take place over three sites and will include a range of entertainment, a flag raising, parade, flyby from a Lancaster Bomber and military drill displays from local Cadets.

Activities will take place on Saturday 29 June from 10am to 4pm on The High Street, City Square and The Cornhill.

Councillor Jackie Kirk, from Lincoln City Council, has been one of the event’s lead organisers and is happy about what has been planned to date. She said: “This year’s event is set to be bigger and better than ever, the planning committee has been working incredibly hard to make sure we have a range of entertainment organised to suit all ages and tastes.

“Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for us to remember servicemen and women who have been injured or who have lost their lives serving their country as well as being a good opportunity for us to thank our current troops for the great work they are doing currently. I would encourage local people to come along to experience the event with us and enjoy all of the activities on offer.”

There is entertainment planned to take place on the High Street from 10.30am to 4pm. Residents and visitors will be entertained by an array of vocal, instrumental and dance performances throughout the day.

A stage will be set up next to the War Memorial in the High Street that will play host to various acts including Katie Spitfire a 1940s style singer well known in many local places for her renditions from the past.

There will also be entertainment from the Royal Marine Cadet Drummers, Air Training Corps Drummers, RAF Waddington Pipes and Drums band, the Lincoln Fire and Rescue Band, a selection of Irish dancers and the Foss Dyke Brass Band. There will also be (weather permitting) a flyby from a Lancaster Bomber.

Activities are planned in the City Square from 10am to 4pm. The day will start with a formal flag raising and a special Armed Forces Day parade at 10am. The parade will include Veterans and members of Lincolnshire Associations.

The parade will be witnessed by the civic party including a long list of commanding officers from the county’s air stations and will be accompanied by music from the Lincoln Fire and Rescue Band.

Positioned around the City Square will be a range of promotional stands. Stall holders will include The Royal British Legion, Help for Heroes, The Submariner’s Association, The Royal Navy Association, The Royal Observer Corps Association, Women’s Royal Army Corps, The Royal Signals Association, The Royal Air Force Association, Air Training Corps, local cadet forces and East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association.

Young people from the Sea Cadets and Air Training Corps will be presenting military drill displays and other demonstrations planned by individual units. As well as the Lincoln City Concert band performing towards the end of the day.

The Cornhill Market will be hosting the local Army Reserves from The Burton Road TA Centre in Lincoln and The Prince William of Gloucester Barracks in Grantham.

Representatives from the units will be joined by an array of military vehicles and will have information available for anyone who is interested in learning more about the Armed Forces.
