Derby Mayor thanked for supporting Reservists

A special presentation event took place at Derby City Council on Corporation Street in which the Mayor was given a certificate that had been jointly signed by the Secretary of State for Defence and the Chief of the Defence Staff.

The event was jointly organised by the East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA) and Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers (SaBRE).

John Wilson, Regional SaBRE Campaign Director, said: “Derby City Council has been a dedicated supporter of the Reserve Armed Forces for many years, and currently has four members of staff who are in the Territorial Army. Enhancing the relationship between employers and Reservists has a number of benefits including appreciating the training that individuals receive through their voluntary roles and the transferable skills that they can bring to their civilian careers.”

Mayor Lisa Higginbottom said: “I personally fully support Reservists in Derbyshire and appreciate the skills and confidence they bring back to our organisation. I was therefore delighted to accept the certificate on behalf of Derby City Council today.

“My predecessors have shown their support for employing those who are a part of the Reserve Forces for many years. The advice and support we have received over time from the RFCA and SaBRE has been very positive and we hope our working relationship continues long into the future.”
