SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers) organised the event in association with ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) who aim to improve organisations and working life through better employment relations, and the RTMC in Chilwell, Nottingham.

Over 30 people attended the event including representatives from both public and private sector employers, including: Rolls-Royce, Derby; Babcock DynCorp Ltd, Grantham; Capital One, Nottingham; Derwent Living, Derby; Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council; Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust; Leicestershire Constabulary; Lincolnshire NHS Shared Services; Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust; Nottingham City Tram; North Nottinghamshire College; Linkage Community Trust, Mablethorpe; Shoosmiths Solicitors, Northampton; The University of Nottingham; Toyota Logistic Services GB.

They received information and guidance on the practicalities and legalities of employing and managing Reservists in the workplace. They also enjoyed a rare opportunity to tour the Training and Mobilisation Centre, to see the medical and rehabilitation facilities; the weapons kit and equipment used by Reservists and to try hands-on activities on an electronic rifle range.

Romina Goldsworthly from North Kesteven School in Lincoln was one of the employers who attended. She said: “I found the event to be fascinating. I didn’t know a lot about the Army Reserve before today and the activities have made me think about the advantages of employing Reservists.”

John Wilson, East Midlands Regional SaBRE Director, said: “This event provided an excellent opportunity for employers to learn about the Volunteer Reserve Forces and their training processes and to gain an understanding of the important relationship between Reservists and their employers.

“The event was a great success with good feedback received from many of those who attended.”

The event took place on 5 November 2013.
