Engaging with employers in Northamptonshire

Representatives from 15 different organisations who are based in Northamptonshire attended an employer engagement briefing and dinner last night (10 October) to show their support for Reservists.

East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA) and SaBRE (Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers) sponsored the event that took place at the Army Reserve Centre on Clare Street in Northampton to say thank you to local supportive employers and inform them of recent changes to the Reserve Forces overall.

Employers in attendance included: Northamptonshire County Council; Stagecoach Midlands; Kettering Borough Council; DHL Ltd; C Butt Ltd; Northampton University; Northampton Borough Council; Sandwell Ltd; Weatherbys Ltd and Weatherbys Bank Ltd;  Sainsbury’s; Western Power Plc; Waitrose Ltd; Corby Borough Council; Nationwide Plc and Asda Stores Ltd.

John Wilson, East Midlands Regional Director of SaBRE, said: “SaBRE is an organisation that aims to build employers’ support for members of the Reserve Forces. Inviting Northamptonshire employers to an event such as this allows them to ask questions, to gain a greater understanding of what Reservists do through their military training and how the skills and attributes developed through military training may benefit employers.

“It is hoped that the employers’ better understanding of the Reserve Forces will support the Reserves recruiting objectives in the county, particularly for new young officers, the future leaders of the Reserve Forces.”

The event, in the format of an Army Officers’ Mess Dinner, was organised by Lieutenant Colonel Robert Blomfield, Chairman of the RFCA’s Northamptonshire Committee, who personally invited each of the employers who attended.
