Exceptional Reserves, Cadets and Volunteers honoured at 2024 Lord-Lieutenants’ Awards

Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Awards

Dozens of inspirational characters involved in Reserve and Cadet Forces have been recognised for exceptional commitment and achievements at Lord-Lieutenants’ Awards ceremonies.

All of the ceremonies were supported or facilitated by East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association with a focus on creating special moments of celebration for our people who add so much value to society.

The Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet is one of the highest honours in the Cadet Forces. Typically one Cadet is chosen to represent each Cadet Force – Combined Cadet Force, Sea Cadets, Army Cadets and RAF Air Cadets – in each county.

They act as an essential link between the Cadet Forces and the local community, joining the Lord-Lieutenant in their formal civic duties. These can range from engaging with business and community leaders to meeting members of the Royal Family.

Cadet Sutton, of Workshop Sea Cadets, was one of the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire’s outgoing Cadets.

She described the experience as “absolutely amazing” and added: “As a Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet you meet so many wonderful people and are given so many wonderful opportunities. It’s really opened my eyes about how much people do for the community.”

At each Lord-Lieutenant’s Awards ceremony – held between September and November in Rutland, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire  – Meritorious Service Awards were also presented.

The awards recognise outstanding service by Reservists, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and other supporters and are intended to supplement the New Year and Birthday Honours lists.
