Lincoln Cadet Quartermaster wins fundraiser of the year prize
A Cadet Quartermaster from Lincoln and his running partner have been named as fundraisers of the year by Blesma, the charity for limbless veterans.
Major (Retd) Rob Holland, age 63, who is the Quartermaster for the Cadets on Burton Road in Lincoln and his running partner Cathy Thompson, age 60, were awarded the Cyril Stephens Award 2018 in recognition of their fundraising.
The pair received the award on Saturday 25th May 19 after completing a walk over the roof of the 02 and raising £12,000 over the past five years.
Tony Bloomfield, Associate Director of Fundraising at Blesma, said: “Blesma is delighted to present this award to Cathy and Rob who have fundraised for limbless veterans tirelessly. Thanks to them and other supporters we are able to ensure that we continue to help those veterans who have lost limbs”.
Over the past five years Rob and Cathy have ran the London, Amsterdam and Paris Marathons in addition to many Half Marathons. Last year, the running duo also took on a 44 mile run across the Normandy beaches on D-Day.
Rob served in the Royal Artillery for 37 years before taking up his current post as Quartermaster for Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force.
Rob Holland, said: “I am extremely honoured to have received this award with Cathy and we are delighted by the support our family and friends have given us and the money we have raised.
“Blesma is the oldest forces charity which started during the First World War and looks after service personnel throughout their lives it is such a worthwhile cause and it is humbling to think that our efforts can help others, even if it’s just in some small way.
“We are already planning our next challenge which will be to take on the Moscow Marathon this September. We can’t wait to push ourselves even further and raise even more money.”
