Name the lion for Armed Forces Day

Nottingham’s Grass Lion is looking for a new name ready for his appearance at the Nottingham Armed Forces Day national event next month.

Today (10 May 2013) marks the 50-day countdown to the event, which promises to be a spectacular FREE day out for all the family with a parade through Nottingham city centre and a day of celebrations at Victoria Embankment on Saturday 29 June (10am – 6pm).
The lion has a smart new coat for the occasion, courtesy of Lindum Turf, and needs a smart new name to match.

The lion – which is based on the stone lions outside the Council House – will be at the Open Day at Nottingham City Council’s Nursery from 10am to 3pm on Saturday May 11th where the Nottingham in Bloom team will be taking suggestions for names.

Councillor Malcolm Wood, Chair of the Nottingham in Bloom Working Group, said: “Last year one of his fans came up with ‘Jubileo’, which was perfect for the national year of celebrations. We hope we will receive some equally good suggestions this year and look forward to choosing a winner.”

Suggestions can also be e-mailed to: bloom@nottinghamcity.gov.uk by Friday 24 May.
