Notts Sea, Army and Air Cadets go head-to-head in inaugural drill competition

Congratulations to 384 (Mansfield) Squadron Air Cadets for winning the ‘Best Overall Squad’ title during Nottinghamshire’s inaugural Tri-Service Drill Competition.

In total 50 Cadets from Sea, Army and Air Cadet units in the county went head-to-head at the Cadet Training Centre, Chilwell, in September.

Each team was marked on its march on and off the drill square, its standard of dress, its free drill display, and its overall effort and effect.

Other category winners included:

  • Best Sea Cadet Corps Squad: Worksop Sea Cadets
  • Best Army Cadet Force Squad: Nottinghamshire ACF Team A
  • Best Air Training Corps Squad: 384 (Mansfield) Squadron, Trent Wing
  • Best Squad Commander: 384 (Mansfield) Squadron, Trent Wing
  • Best Overall Cadet: Cadet Ward, Worksop Sea Cadets.

Sponsored by Nottinghamshire County Council, the competition would not have been possible without the support of the Team Managers, Nottinghamshire Army Cadets, Nottingham Sea Cadets and 350 Field Squadron.

The event was attended by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Professor Veronica Pickering MBS HAC;  Nora Senior CBE DL, Vice Lord-Lieutenant; and Colonel Nicky Weston DL, Honorary Colonel of Nottinghamshire ACF. Special thanks to Warrant Officer Class Two Gavin Hudson from the Grenadier Guards who was the leading judge and brought real expertise to the event.

Gary de la Hoyde-Brooks, Deputy Chief Executive of East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, said: “A huge well done to every single Cadet who took part in Nottinghamshire’s first ever Tri-Service Drill Competition. This was a fiercely contended competition, in which our Cadets not only excelled , demonstrating self-discipline, confidence and passion, they also represented their respective units and services with immense pride.

“My personal thanks go out to our many partners; without their unwavering support, such a fantastic display of teamwork would simply not have been possible.”
