Reservists and Adult Cadet Volunteers come together for Uniform to Work Day

A number of local Reservists from the Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Marine Reserves, Territorial Army, and the Royal Auxiliary Air Force were joined by senior Adult Cadet Volunteers yesterday (26 June) at a reception organised to both celebrate Uniform to Work Day and raise awareness about the National Armed Forces Day taking place later this week.

The event, which was hosted by Nottingham City Council, took place at Nottingham Castle and was a great opportunity for the Adult Cadet Volunteers in attendance, from each of our military services, to meet local Reservists ahead of the National Armed Forces Day event in Nottingham later this week (29 June).

Leading Seaman Derek Parsons, a Royal Naval Reservist from HMS Sherwood, was invited to give a presentation at the event about his experiences as a Reservist. He said: It was an honour to be invited to speak to such a distinguished audience.“I was the first Royal Naval Reserve Information Operations Rating to be mobilised to Afghanistan in an Info Ops role, which gave me a real sense of achievement. I talked about my operational tour in Helmand Province and how this can be related to my civilian employment.”
Simon Worsley, Deputy Chief Executive at East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA), attended the event. He said: “I would like to thank Nottingham City Council for organising this event. East Midlands RFCA really appreciates the support that is being shown towards both our local Reservists and Cadet units ahead of the National Armed Forces Day celebrations in Nottingham this weekend.
“Saturday promises to be a fantastic event that will include a parade and Drumhead service. Hundreds of Reservists, Cadets and Adult Cadet Volunteers will be taking part in the entertainment planned in both the city centre and embankment areas.
“This event was a good opportunity for all of the volunteers present to gain an insight into the role of both the regular and Reserve Forces as well as what it means to be a member of a voluntary youth organisation such as the Sea Cadets, Army Cadet Force or Air Training Corps”.
