Reservists tee-off in Erewash
A number of local employers and members of our Reserve Armed Forces are taking part in a golf day to raise awareness of what Reservists do and what the benefits are of employing them.
East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (RFCA) and Supporting Britain’s Reservists and Employers (SaBRE) are organising the event to bring local organisations and Reservists together to emphasize the importance of having good communication and understanding between both parties.
The golf day will take place at Erewash Valley Golf Club, Golf Club Road, Stanton by Dale, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, on 22 May.
John Wilson, SaBRE Campaign Director, said: “Each team will be made up of a mixture of Reservists and their current civilian employers. The idea is that teams will have the opportunity to speak about their understanding of Reservists and the provision that SaBRE can provide to employers on a range of different subjects. Guidance can include supporting them through possible mobilisation, creating new policies relating to Reservist employees and providing general advice and guidance where needed.
“We hope that participating employers will gain a greater understanding about the potential benefits of employing Reservists such as gaining transferable skills and attributes including an increase in confidence and a greater ability to work as part of a team.
“A number of the employers who already employ Reservists and have demonstrated their support to them will be presented with certificates at a brief presentation ceremony later in the day.”
The City of Nottingham will be hosting this year’s Armed Forces Day national event. Festivities on Saturday 29 June will include a spectacular tri-service parade and Drumhead Service in the Old Market Square. Celebrations will continue in the afternoon at the Victoria Embankment where there will be military displays.
