Revealed: Winners of 2024 Gold Award in the East Midlands
The Leicestershire branch of the world’s largest construction equipment manufacturer, 2 logistics giants and 5 other Forces-friendly organisations have been awarded the Ministry of Defence’s highest honour for employers.
Caterpillar BCP, DEA Aviation, DHU Healthcare, East Midlands Ambulance Service, GXO, Lincolnshire Community Health Service NHS Trust, MTMS and XPO have all been recognised with the Gold Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
The award is the highest achievement for those who support and advocate for Reservists, Service Leavers, Cadets, Cadet Volunteers, Military Spouses, and Military Families.
Organisations are only eligible to apply for the Ministry of Defence Gold Award after signing the Armed Forces Covenant and achieving the Silver Award in the Employer Recognition Scheme.
On top of that, they must proactively demonstrate their Forces-friendly credentials as part of their recruiting and selection processes. They must also, amongst other policies, provide their Reservists with at least 10 days of additional paid leave for training.
Fred Hopkins, Head of Engagement at East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, said: “Congratulations to our 2024 cohort of Gold Award winners.
“Between them, these 8 Armed Forces champions employ in excess of 6,000 people, all of whom benefit from the greatest level of support from public and private sector organisations.
“We look forward to building on the strong working relationships already established to continue to both support Defence and highlight the benefit of employing the Armed Forces community.”
Alistair Carns, Minister for Veterans and People, added: “Our Armed Forces Community make incredible sacrifices to keep the nation safe, and it is only right that they are welcomed and valued in the workplace when they leave service.
“This scheme aligns with this Government’s determination to renew the nation’s contract with our Armed Forces.
“I would like to thank the nearly 200 organisations that have been recognised with a Gold Award this year. Their continued support ensures that our Armed Forces Community are given opportunities needed to flourish.”
Nationally, 193 organisations have been recognised by the UK Government with the highest badge of honour in 2024 for supporting the Armed Forces community. Award recipients include Stirling Highland Games, Expedia.Com, Google and B&Q.
