Swadlincote Air Cadets march to top ten in south and east midlands area

At the beginning of the school summer holidays, thirteen Air Cadets from Swadlincote marched to success to reach a strong 6th place out of 29 other Air Cadet units from around the South and East Midlands area including Derbyshire, Nottingham and Northamptonshire in their annual Wing Field Day Drill Competition.

The Swadlincote Air Cadet Drill Team travelled to RAF Wittering in Cambridgeshire as part of their Wing Field Day to take part in a ten minute drill sequence which included a formal inspection of their uniform.
Upon hearing the good news, Flight Sergeant (FS) Chris Gotheridge, Squadron Drill and Disipline Officer said: “ This was a fantastic result for the squadron and reflects weeks of preparation training and effort from every individual. The Cadets are proud of their achievement and are looking forward to next years competition”.
1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC) Drill Team was chosen by FS Gotheridge and Pilot Officer (PO) Moss after months of hard work and determination to ensure the best 12 Cadets were chosen for the team.Once the final 12 had been chosen the Cadets worked together to ensure their best blue uniform was of a high standard and that their drill, both marching and static movements were beyond criticsm. Whilst the main squad was made up of 12 Cadets, Swadlincotes latest Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) Joy Wakeling, aged 18 years, took on the role of the Drill Commander, which saw her role involving calling out the orders throughout the sequence and ensuring her team arrived at their event in plenty of time too ensure the finishing touches too uniform and any last minutue nerves or worries were sorted.
