Swadlincote Air Cadets pay their respects to War Veterans on Remembrance Sunday
Sunday 10th November 2013 saw more than 80 air cadets and members of staff from 1211(Swadlincote) Squadron Air Training Corps descend on Swadlincote Town Centre alongside members of the local Royal British Legion and War veterans, to pay their respects to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts around the world and take part in the Remembrance Sunday Parade, which is viewed as one of the most important Parades within the Squadron’s Annual Calendar.
Remembrance Sunday is a memorial day that is closest to the 11th November,the date at which the first world war officially ended, which is also known as Poppy Day or Armistice Day and aims to remember those members of the armed forces, within Commonwealth Countries, who have died in the line of duty.
Remembrance Sunday in Swadlincote assembled at Eureka Park memorial gates, near the Squadron Headquarters, just before 10am, where there was a short service that involved several members of different organisations laying wreaths on the gate, followed by a march to Hill Street Baptist Church in Swadlincote Town Centre for a formal service.
Flight Lieutenant Rob Moore, Squadron Operations Officer said: “It was an honour for our Air Cadets to stand alongside the Royal British Legion, veterans and civic leaders to remember all those who have lost their lives in the name of peace. And I am immensely proud of all members of 1211 Squadron who took part in the parade, for their smart turnout and the professional manner in which they conducted themselves, particularly our wreath laying part, banner party and our Band, who led the parade”.
1211(Swadlincote) Squadron opens its doors four times a year to prospective new cadets, male and female aged from 13 – 17 years.
