Veteran volunteer awarded Golden Rose

A senior adult volunteer in the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) in Leicester has been awarded the Golden Rose after nearly forty years of service.

Lieutenant (SCC) David Derbyshire RNR was awarded the Golden Rose and the fourth Clasp for his Cadet Forces Medal.

David explained: “It has been a pleasure to be a volunteer through these many years and to pass on my knowledge to the youth of today. To see them getting awards for the achievements they have worked so hard for makes my day.”

This medal is awarded to Adult Volunteers in the Cadet Forces for their service to the Corps.

After 12 years’ service a Cadet Force Medal is awarded and after a further six years’ service the holder would receive a Clasp corresponding to the amount of time they have dedicated to the Corps.

David was awarded his Golden Rose and Clasp by the District Officer Lieutenant Commander (SCC) David Nichol RNR.

David is still serving as an Assistant District Officer in Leicestershire as County Liaison and fulfils any duty that ensures the success of the Sea Cadets wherever he can.
