Armed Forces Day events in the East Midlands

Cities, towns and villages across the East Midlands are preparing unique events for Armed Forces Day.

Armed Forces Day isn’t until Saturday 30 June but there are loads of events in the week before and after for you to get involved with.

The first event of the week is being run by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust and takes place on Friday 22 June.

This informal event is open to all and will allow you to learn more about the support being offered by the Trust to service personnel and their families. Coffee and cake will be available.

Retford will be the first town to host Armed Forces Day on 23 June in Kings Park. There will be a mixture of military and civilian displays as well as a wide variety of stalls.

On Tuesday (26 June) there will be an afternoon Armed Forces Tea Dance at the Acacia Centre in Kirkby in Ashfield.

All the users of the centre and members of the Royal British Legion are welcome to attend for two hours of old time dancing with a refreshment break in the middle.

Armed Forces Day is on 30 June and there are events taking place throughout the East Midlands but here are some of the highlights you should try and visit.

Derby is hosting its annual event all day in the marketplace, there will be demonstrations from the Army and the cadets as well as lots of other activities for the whole family.

At 1pm there will be a parade through the town of Wellingborough followed by a re-dedication of the town’s First World War Memorial.

Rushcliffe Borough Council are holding a Proms in the Park event at Bridgford Park where there will be performances throughout the day from local musicians. There will also be loads of displays from community groups and a selection of sporting activities to keep the whole family entertained.

Finally on 1 July Mansfield will host its’ Armed Forces Day in the marketplace. There will be a parade led by the Mansfield District Corps of Drums.

In the marketplace there will also be a selection of military vehicles (both current and classic), a craft market, a WW1 trench and a selection of family activities. The day will be completed with an RAF memorial flypast from a Dakota.
