East Midlands’ employers recognised for their support to the Armed Forces
On Monday 13th May, employers from across the East Midlands visited the Palace of Westminster, the exclusive RAF Club in Piccadilly and the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge in recognition of their support of the Armed Forces community.
Those in attendance have signed the Armed Forces Covenant which is a pledge to treat those who serve or who have served, and their families, with fairness and respect.
John Wilson, the Ministry of Defence’s Regional Employer Engagement Director for the East Midlands, said: “I am delighted that so many employers were able to join us for this experience and that we were given the opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for their support of the Armed Forces.
“The event also provided us with the opportunity to learn more about how Reservists are positioned within an organisation and employers were able to share their experiences of the benefits.”
Many of the employers at the event hold bronze, silver or gold awards from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme which recognises employers that pledge, demonstrate and advocate support to the Armed Forces.
Ballu Patel, Non-Executive Director for University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, said: “Reservists bring with them a different way of working and thinking because of the way in which they are trained. They are taught to make critical decisions under extreme pressure and bring with them skills and training that you just wouldn’t get in the civilian clinical world.”
Adam Keightley, sales Director for Anderson Green, said:
“Reservists are a vital part of our business, they are a real asset. The work ethic they bring from the military is unbelievable and they always have a commitment to get the job done.”
