Planning has begun for Reserves Day 2019, with the annual celebration taking place on Wednesday 26th June.

There are more than 3000 Armed Forces Reserves throughout the East Midlands and Reserves Day is an opportunity to recognise and appreciate the crucial role they play to the UK’s defence capability.

Last year Able Rate Tristan King participated in Reserves Day by wearing his uniform to work, he explained: “I’m really proud to be a Reservist and have had lots of amazing opportunities since I joined.

“Being a Reservist is really different to working within a school environment but that is the best thing about it. I get to have a part-time military career and continue to work with young people as part of my job at Outwood Academy Newbold.

“There are lots of transferable skills I’ve developed over the years too such as problem solving, people skills and time management all of which I can bring back in to my civilian work environment.”

As well as encouraging Reservists to wear their uniform into work, forces friendly employers are hosting events to show their appreciation for the Reservists working for them.

John Wilson, Regional Employer Engagement Director, explained: “I know many of the employers I have engaged with have big plans for Reserves Day and there is still plenty of time for others to organise their own events.

“Last year was really successful and there was a lot of people talking about the reservists wearing their uniform to work and there were some really thought provoking events that highlighted the benefits of Reserve Service.”
