Royal Anglian Reservist presented with Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate

Sergeant Grant being presented with his certificate by the Lord Lieutenant

Sergeant Stephen Grant, Reservist with the Royal Anglian Regiment, was delighted to receive the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate of Meritorious Service in a surprise presentation. Toby Dennis, the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, presented the Certificate in person at a recent Armed Forces Covenant signing event.

Sergeant Grant was not aware he had achieved the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate until the presentation, despite it being Awarded in April 2021. Stephen has served with the Royal Anglian Regiment since 1994. He has deployed on operations in Iraq, and with the United Nations in Cyprus. More recently, as part of Defence’s contribution to the Covid-19 response, he has undertaken Mobile Testing Unit duties in the Midlands.

Sergeant Grant with his certificate

Major Mitch Pegg, Officer Commanding, 4 (Lincolnshire) Company, 3rd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment, read the citation, which included the following:

“Sergeant Grant has given outstanding service to the Royal Anglian Regiment and the wider Army Reserve since 1994.

An infantry soldier through and through, whilst not deployed on operations, Sgt Grant’s career has been one of a fantastic recruiter, trainer, and mentor.  He is a qualified instructor in Physical Training, All-Arm Skill-At-Arms and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Warfare. He has been able to enhance the soldiers of 4 (Lincs) Co with a diverse range of skills alongside a high level of core infantry capabilities.

The Success of Sgt Grant’s trainee soldiers on their basic courses is a testament to his ability and work ethic. It is rare to see a report that does not comment positively on the far above average level of preparedness of the recruits he has trained.”

Friendly character and fair discipline

“Throughout his career, Sergeant Grant has shown that he is reliable, trustworthy, totally committed, and extremely effective. He balances his friendly character with fair discipline. He constantly puts others before himself and works in his own time to support the recruits and their progression.

Sergeant Grant has a proven track record across a long, successful, and unselfish career. He is fully deserving of recognition with the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate.”
