Saturday (30th June) was Armed Forces Day an annual celebration of all hard work our Armed Forces do every day. Cadets and reservists from across the East Midlands got involved with this celebration in many different ways.

Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (LNR) Army Cadet Force (ACF) were really busy with cadets going to multiple events over the weekend.

On Saturday it was Northampton’s Armed Forces Day and LNR were out in force, joining in with the parade through the town, manning a stall to answer the public’s questions about the ACF and supporting the charities that were also in attendance.

However, Northampton was not the only major town hosting Armed Forces Day, Lincoln also held an event on Saturday.

Cadets from Lincolnshire ACF attended the event in Lincoln City Centre and joined in with the parade. The band and corps of drums also performed during the day.

They were also joined by Lincoln Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets as well as local Air Cadet Squadrons.

In Crich reserves and regulars from Mercian Regiment as well as a selection of local cadets took part in the 95th annual Crich pilgrimage where they march up to the Regimental Memorial Tower and hold a memorial service.

On Sunday cadets from across Derbyshire took part in the annual ‘Walk to Remember’ an event organised by the Royal British Legion (RBL).

It sees cadets walk from the National Memorial Arboretum to Mickleover RBL headquarters in order to remember the fallen of previous wars and raise funds for the charity. Sea Cadets from Chesterfield joined the event and they all walked at least ten miles with some walking more than fifteen miles.

The University of Derby held its Armed Forces Day Celebration on Saturday, the event was aimed at families and had a wide range of activities for visitors to try.

Members of HMS Sherwood attended this event in order to better explain what they do and why.
