Weekend roundup – The return of Spring
With the weather finally improving this weekend, cadets from all services have been extremely busy.
2248 (Rutland) Squadron RAF Air Cadets, spent Sunday taking part in the retirement parade for the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland.
As well as being a retirement parade, it was also used to mark the RAF 100 anniversary and celebrate 90 years of 504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron RAuxAF, who are based at nearby RAF Wittering.
The parade was attended by dignitaries from across Rutland and the route was lined with local residents showing their support.
Air cadet squadrons across the East Midlands have made use of the fine weather by taking to the skies.
1237 (North Hykeham) Squadron and 204 (Lincoln) Squadron teamed up to go flying, cadets learnt aircraft controls before taking charge of the plane with some even trying basic aerobatics.
At RAF Cranwell 1403 (Retford) Squadron sent eight of their cadets up in the air with it being the first flight for several of them.
1265 (Horncastle) Squadron RAFAC made use of their air rifle range, with eight cadets earning Marksmanship badges in a single day.
Adult volunteers and cadets from B Company of Nottinghamshire Army Cadet Force travelled to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice this weekend in order to deliver Easter Eggs and crafting supplies which they have been collecting for the children.
Northampton Sea Cadets paraded through their town to remember HMS Laforey, a ship that was destroyed in World War Two which had close links to Northampton and the cadet unit is named in honour of it.
The Lord-Lieutenant for Northamptonshire and the town’s Mayor both came out to show their support, the event culminated in the laying of a wreath to remember those who dies on HMS Laforey.
Sea Cadets from Lincoln travelled down to Gosport to begin their week camp on board the Training Ship Jack Petchy.
Mansfield Sea Cadets made a splash this weekend by having their first day of boating activities in 2018 on King’s Mill Reservoir.
