Engagement

Connecting Reserves and Cadets with their communities.

One of our key roles is to help connect the military with wider society.

From forging links with employers and local communities, to shining a spotlight on the great work happening across the region, we’re here to support, champion and enable Reserves and Cadets, ensuring they have the very best opportunities available to them.

Our Engagement work is made up of three strands…

Civic engagement

Bridging the gap between Defence and the wider community benefits everyone. Reserves and Cadets are able to access more opportunities, while communities can benefit from their skills, experience and expertise.

We work with civic leaders from the Lieutenancy, public bodies such as the Office for Veterans’ Affairs and local Government, as well as business leaders, to help ensure the talents of our people are utilised in the best possible way.

We do this through our county committees and organising events like Conversation with Cadets and the support we lend in delivering six awards ceremonies on behalf of the Lord-Lieutenants each year.

Employer engagement

Supportive workplaces are vital in enabling the number of Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers to grow.

We work closely with business across the region to champion the benefits of employing both, as well as Service Leavers, Military Spouses and their family members.

A large part of this involves promoting and administering the Armed Forces Covenant and the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

Communications

There are many extraordinary people adding great value to communities across the region and it’s our job to make sure their stories are told.

Whether it’s Reserves, Cadets, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, or their supporters, we champion their cause and ensure they receive the attention they deserve.

We run awareness campaigns, as well as providing direct support and guidance to units to help their messaging reach more people.

Our campaigns and stories reach hundreds of thousands of people each year.
