Our colleagues at The Ulysses Trust have recently introduced ‘The Ulysses Trust New Horizons Fundraising Campaign’ raising much needed funds for expeditions, which will be important for retention in the Cadet and Reserve Forces.

The Ulysses Trust provides encouragement, advice and essential financial support for challenging expeditions undertaken by the UK’s Volunteer Reserve and Cadet forces. The Ulysses Trust New Horizons Fundraising Campaign aims to raise further funds to support the expanding numbers of Cadets in the UK.

The costs of expeditions are not met from the public purse and for Cadets especially, finding the means of funding can be enormously challenging. This is where the Trust plays a vital role, applying their efforts to implement their vision. Their aim is:  “Ensuring that every member of the UK’s Volunteer Reserve and Cadet Forces has the opportunity to undertake challenging adventurous and community-related activities, thereby to help the engagement and development of young people in our society, individually, and as effective contributors to their communities and as citizens of this country.”

The Cadet Expansion Programme, which set out to achieve a target of 500 Combined Cadet Force (CCF) units in schools back in 2012, was successfully reached six months early in March 2015. The overall goal of the Ulysses Trust New Horizons Fundraising Campaign is to “provide this growing number of Cadets with the opportunity to undertake adventurous activities beyond their routine training, thereby supporting recruitment and retention.”

The Charity’s Trustees have launched the new campaign so that now, and into the future, the growing number of cadets, whatever their circumstances, can all strive, seek and find new horizons. The new brochure highlights Cadet stories where individuals have been personally impacted by attending Cadets. It also features those who have benefited from previous expeditions, which their financial situation would otherwise not have allowed.

You can read more about the campaign in The Ulysses Trust New Horizons Fundraising Campaign brochure.
